Farouk El-Baz

Born in Egypt

Geologist Farouk El-Baz is director of the Center for Remote Sensing, and research professor at the Departments of Archaeology and Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University. He is known for his pioneering work in analyzing space photographs to discover ground-water resources in arid lands. He has written several books on related subjects, chaired committees such as the U.S. National Committee for Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences, and won numerous honors including NASAs Apollo Achievement Award.
