Charles Simic

Named the U.S. Poet Laureate in 2007, Charles Simic has led a distinguished and productive career, drawing upon his childhood in war-torn Europe with his visceral, unique verse. He has published 20 books of his own poetry, including a collection of prose poems, The World Doesn’t End, which won a Pulitzer Prize in 1990. He was named a MacArthur Foundation fellow and won the 2011 Frost Medal for lifetime achievement in poetry. He has also published as an editor, translator, and essayist. Updated 2012
