Andre Aciman is a writer of fiction and nonfiction and noted scholar of 17th century French literature. Born in 1951 in Alexandria, Egypt, he published his Whiting Award-winning debut in 1994, the memoir Out of Egypt, which traces his family’s migration into Egypt and its subsequent exile amid growing anti-Semitism. Aciman currently serves as a professor at the Graduate Center of City University of New York and chairs the Ph.D. program in comparative literature. He holds an MA and PhD from Harvard University.
