Author Simon Winchester first established his career in the 1970s as a highly respected journalist for The Guardian newspaper, covering world events such as Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland, the Watergate scandal in the U.S., and the Soviet-backed coup d’etat in Afghanistan. He also wrote several books during that time, but it wasn’t until The Professor and the Madman, in 1998, that he found great success as an author. He has written several best sellers since, most recently The Men Who United the States. Updated 2014
