John Kluge

Entreprenuer

Born in Germany

Starting in the 1950s, John W. Kluge (1914-2010) grew the Metromedia company into a media giant, at its height encompassing numerous broadcast stations, Orion Pictures, outdoor advertising, mobile phones, the Harlem Globetrotters, and the Ice Capades, before it was dissolved in the 1980s. Becoming one of the richest men in America, Kluge was considered by some as the last great American entrepreneur. As a philanthropist, he donated to the Library of Congress, Columbia University, and the restoration of Ellis Island. Updated 2010
