Twelve organizations receive $5.4 million in grants to reduce immediate and long-term nuclear risks
Jan 29, 2026
New York, NY, January 29, 2026 — The Consortium to Reduce Nuclear Dangers has selected 12 projects for funding from its first open call for proposals. The call drew nearly 500 project applications from organizations and researchers worldwide. The strong response shows significant interest in novel work to reduce nuclear dangers and address emerging nuclear risks.
Following an extremely competitive review process, the consortium selected 12 projects for a total of $5.44 million in funding. The selected projects use diverse approaches and methodologies to advance practical, policy-relevant work on both immediate and long-term nuclear dangers.
The consortium, whose founding members are Founders Pledge, Longview Philanthropy, and PAX sapiens, is also pleased to welcome the Global Challenges Foundation (GCF) as its newest partner. GCF is a Swedish philanthropic foundation dedicated to raising awareness of global catastrophic risks and strengthening global governance to reduce and mitigate these risks, including those posed by nuclear weapons.
Based on the success of the first round, the consortium plans to open a second call for proposals in spring 2026. More information about the second call will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. To subscribe for additional consortium updates, please click here.
