Description
Globally, women account for a significantly smaller portion of scientific research output, creating a demand for professional leadership programs. Established in 2008, the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) aims to expand the pipeline of African women scientists in the agricultural sciences leadership positions. With renewed support, AWARD will provide training and mentorship to 120 competitively selectedwomen in the agricultural sciences from sub-Saharan Africa,connecting them with mentors representing senior lecturers and university managers, scientists, international development practitioners, and civil society leaders in the agricultural research and development sector.

Description
Globally, women account for a significantly smaller portion of scientific research output, leading to an increased demand in the African scholarly community to expand women’s professional leadership programs to build a pool of capable, influential women leaders in science. Successful interventions require targeted programs to addressimpediments to women’s progress into leadership. The African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) Leadership Program for Women in Science will equip women with skills and access to networks to build capabilities and confidence to grow in leadership positions. Corporation support will target 50 competitively selectedearly-career scientistsfor an immersive virtual leadership program. This grant will support professional and academic skills training, coaching, and networking activities.

Description
Globally, women account for a smaller portion of scientific research output, and many in the African academic community have committed to growing the numbers and expanding opportunities for female researchers. Envisioned as a global conversation, the Global Forum on Women in Scientific Research, convening July 18-19 in Dakar, Senegal, will provide a venue to discuss trends and strategies to increase women’s research output and opportunities. The forum, co-hosted by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development and the African Academy of Sciences, will bring together more than 200 female researchers and their advocates to catalyze new connections and strengthen the network of actors working to address gender equality in academic research. This grant will support attendance by twenty-six early-career female researchers and ten heads of regional research institutes.
