Description

Today in the United States, one in four children is born into an immigrant family and by 2040, these young people will be the majority of the school-age population. These students and their families often experience a learning gap compared to their peers, especially when language is a barrier. Research has shown that parent involvement is a strong determinant of student success because parents have the power to influence student behavior and expectations. Founded in 2014, TalkingPoints is a non-profit organization with a mission to unlock the potential of low-income and immigrant families in order to support their children’s learning. Through their multilingual engagement platform which connects parents and teachers via two-way translated messages and personalized supports, TalkingPoints empowers parents with information and tools to engage in their children’s learning process at home and together with their schools. With support from the Corporation, TalkingPoints will expand the reach of its platform, develop new functionalities for teachers, and build its infrastructure to further scale their impact.
