District leaders need support in making decisions about materials selection and successful implementation through an evidence-based process that effectively plans for curriculum-based professional learning. Student Achievement Partners (SAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving student learning outcomes through standards-aligned, culturally relevant teaching. With Corporation funding, they have developed the Essential x Equitable (e2) Instructional Practice Framework to support the next phase of a sector-wide movement to improve education. Through this renewal general support grant, SAP will continue to design evidence-based tools, resources, and professional learning to support teachers and district leaders. Description
As schools are developing reopening plans with remote, in-person, and hybrid instructional models, the long-term effects of the Spring 2020 school closures continue to impact the 2020-21 school year. Extensive testing, reteaching, and remediation at the expense of grade-level work will further jeopardize the academic success of students, particularly those with specialized learning needs. School leaders and curriculum advisors need to be equipped with the information needed to make grade-level work a priority. Student Achievement Partners (SAP) serves as a technical advisor and provides expert quality assurance to multiple education stakeholders that serve teachers and schools. Published in late June 2020, SAP’s Priority Instructional Content guidelines were designed to help publishers, designers of instructional materials, and instructional leaders find new efficiencies in their existing ELA and/or math curriculum to mitigate unfinished learning. Through this general support grant, SAP will: a) promote equitable K-12 grade-level instruction; b) provide technical support to stakeholders; and c) provide and pilot professional learning services.

Description
Although the standards that shape curriculum remain rigorous across the country, by themselves they cannot raise achievement. Professional learning is rarely standards-aligned and job-embedded, and most teachers don’t demand standards-aligned instructional materials. Student Achievement Partners (SAP), an organization that serves as a technical advisor to curriculum publishers, assessment developers, professional learning organizations, states and districts, ensures that teachers have access to standards-aligned resources. Through this renewal grant, SAP will undertake three projects: (1) provide technical advisory support to Learning Forward, a Corporation grantee with national reach and influence over professional learning policy and practice; (2) pilot new professional learning opportunities leveraging standards-aligned resources and free digital platforms, and (3) develop blog posts by content experts and teachers working with standards aligned instructional materials.

Date
Mar. 02, 2017
Duration
24 months
Description
Significant gaps exist in the quality and alignment of instructional materials to support the instructional shifts in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Founded in 2011, Student Achievement Partners (SAP) is dedicated to ensuring that teachers and students have access to instructional materials and assessments in mathematics and ELA that are high quality and aligned to college- and career- ready (CCR) standards. Through this grant, SAP will undertake three projects in pursuit of these goals: develop free, digital resources specific to two unaligned frequently used ELA/Math textbook series that provide practical daily support to teachers as they work to adapt these materials to align with CCR standards; co-develop and promote practitioner stories that model the use of high quality, CCR standards-aligned materials; and enhance the suite of current resources on its website to reflect practical supports for teachers working with English Language Learners (ELLs).
