Description
Oftenthe greatest barrier to meaningful change is a lack of representation or guidance from the people that policies directly affect. Amplifying the voices of families, youth and educators, therefore, is essential in order to change systems. In an effort to ensure that community voice is present in policy decision-making, the Schott Foundation launched the Opportunity to Learn (OTL)Policy Commission. The OTL Commission serves as a national hub for the development and dissemination of community-informed policies, tools, and tactics, and a place to formally facilitate ongoing collaboration between grassroots leaders and key decision-makers in addressing issues of racial equity and justice in education. With support from the Corporation, the OTL Commission will convene members to discuss key issues related to assessment and accountability in public education and produce a series of relevant and community-informed policy recommendations for federal education officials and policymakers.
