Description
Save Ellis Island (SEI) supports the rehabilitation and preservation of the 29 mostly unrestored buildings comprising the Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital Complex in New York Harbor. SEI provides educational programming about the important role the complex played in the history of immigration in the United States. Corporation funding will support SEI’s continuing efforts to train and provide financial assistance to educators who run the immensely popular Hard Hat Tours.SEI is also planning to expand their educational outreach program, Preserve NJ, which focuses on the historic preservation of buildings. Other programming includes developing a distance learning program for students who could not otherwise visit Ellis Island as well as expanding the Ellis Island Author Series which presents the works of authors related to immigration, immigrants, and Ellis Island.
