Founded in 1915, the mission of the Near East Foundation’s (NEF) is to help build more sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive communities in the Middle East, Africa, and Caucasus through education, community organizing, and economic development initiatives. NEF’s operates through three core program areas to improve the lives of conflict-affected and vulnerable people: Inclusive Economic Development, Peacebuilding and Stabilization, and Climate Resilient Development. The economic and programmatic challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted the implementation and delivery of their work putting an already vulnerable population in great jeopardy. Corporation support will help close the NEF funding gap enabling its staff to adapt new tools including experimenting with distance learning, conducting local economic assessments to assess the short- and long-term impact of the virus on those most vulnerable, and planning for local economic recovery after the pandemic.
