Description

The failure to enact comprehensive legal immigration reform continues to fuel public frustration, misinformation, and political gridlock. In response, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI)—in partnership with Niskanen Center and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)—is leading efforts to rebuild a pragmatic, solutions-driven nonprofit ecosystem that will influence legal immigration policymaking and advance bipartisan, evidence-based policy solutions. This initiative aims to strengthen border security, enhance legal immigration pathways, and restore public trust in the immigration system while ensuring adherence to legal norms and humane treatment principles. With renewed Corporation support, MPI will continue convening center-right and center-left stakeholders, including corporate, labor, business, and faith-based sectors, to develop practical legal immigration policies.

Description

While immigration is a contentious issue in the United States and in many other countries around the world, it also remains as one of the most important sources of economic, social, and cultural vitality. Founded in 2001, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is the only independent policy institution in North America dedicated to the study of migration, refugee trends, and policies worldwide. In response to the inaction at the congressional level, most recently visible with the federal border bill focusing on the needs at the southern border, MPI is collaborating with Niskanen Center and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) to rebuild a solutions-driven nonprofit ecosystem that shapes immigration policymaking and advances border security imperatives, humane treatment, and legal norms. With Corporation support, MPI will coordinate partners from the center-right and center-left, including a number of current Corporation grantees and the corporate, labor, business, and faith sectors, to develop practical solutions grounded in border management and security and in legal immigration and competitiveness.

Founded in 2001, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is a leading research and policy institution dedicated to the study of American and global migration. Description

As the native-born United States population ages and the national birthrate declines, immigrants have been helping to revitalize communities and entire industries. Immigrants and their children now account for 86.5 million people, or 27 percent, of the U.S. population. Children of immigrants represent one in four young children of ages five and under, and nearly one in ten students in American schools is an English learner. Yet, immigration remains a highly divisive policy issue in politics and society. Dedicated to the study of American and global migration, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is a leading think tank in the United States and the advanced industrial world. With renewed Corporation support, MPI will provide nonpartisan analysis and evaluation of migration and refugee policies at the local, national, and international levels, in order to help meet the demand for pragmatic and thoughtful responses to the challenges and opportunities that large-scale migration presents to communities and institutions in an increasingly integrated world.

Description

The terms of the American debate around immigration and refugee resettlement are being radically redefined. The Trump Administration has attempted twice to halt admissions from multiple Muslim-majority countries; ordered the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border; and rebuked hundreds of jurisdictions for noncompliance with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The wide-ranging implications of the administration’s policies demand high-quality, evidence-based information on their ongoing impact. Dedicated to the study of migration, Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is a leading think tank in the U.S. and the world. With Corporation support, MPI will monitor the rapidly changing American immigration landscape, play a leading role in research around immigrant integration challenges and opportunities, and facilitate global alliance building for sustainable solutions to the ongoing global refugee crisis.
