Description

Artificial intelligence is reshaping the workforce faster than most training systems can keep pace, creating high-paying roles in AI infrastructure computing and agentic engineering that remain inaccessible to many from underserved communities due to the cost of traditional technical training programs, which often run $20,000 to $30,000. Kura Labs is a nonprofit workforce training academy that has reduced that cost to approximately $2,000 to $3,000 per participant by combining instructor-led instruction with enterprise-grade simulations through its partnership with Codon, a platform that replicates real-world AI and cloud infrastructure environments. Since its founding in 2020, Kura Labs has trained more than 100 engineers and achieved placement rates of 80 to 90 percent, with graduates landing roles at Bloomberg, AWS, Oracle, and Capital One, and many participants more than doubling their income to starting salaries up to $100,000. This grant will more than double Kura Labs’ historical participant volume, serving 400 to 500 participants over 24 months as it evolves its program to focus on AI infrastructure and agentic engineering roles.

Many industries are in the process of outsourcing their entire computing power to cloud computing platforms reducing information Technology costs significantly. This shift to cloud computing represents opportunities for companies and high-paying positions for individuals. However, there is a shortage of skilled workers to support the massive migration and maintenance to cloud computing. Kura Labs helps by training high-performing, under-resourced students and graduates from CUNY, private colleges, and community-based organizations (CBOs). Since its inception, Kura Labs has trained and placed nearly one-hundred engineers at Fortune 1000 companies and venture-backed startups, with most earning starting salaries of $100K. Its efficacy stems from its vast network of employers and unique focus on deep exploration of the vast array of real-world problems and challenges facing businesses and enterprises, and developing optimal solutions based on various technological tools/applications. Continued Corporation support will allow Kura Labs to keep engaging employers and colleges to train and connect highly talented and diverse students to fill the need for a skilled workforce in Cloud Computing. Another major goal is to increase the number of people trained, resulting in immediate and significant mobility in underserved communities in New York City and the United States.

Kura Labs bridges the gap between the existing and growing corporate need and the shortage of skilled workers by training high-performing under-resourced students and graduates from CUNY, private colleges, and community-based organizations (CBOs). These colleges and CBOs represent an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse pool of candidates that are facing additional challenges due to the COVID-19 crisis. Corporation support will help Kura Labs continue to engage employers and colleges to train and connect highly talented and diverse students to fill current staffing needs that exist within Cloud Computing.
