Date

Duration

Description

Rising political and social divisions are adversely affecting governance, peacebuilding, and social cohesion around the world. In this renewal grant, the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT), an international nongovernmental organization headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, will focus on strengthening local and global capacities to prevent and reduce polarization across democratic and conflict-affected settings. In the next phase of its Global Initiative on Polarization, IFIT will consolidate its role as a global hub on depolarization by strengthening collaboration, sharing knowledge, and developing innovative approaches to reduce polarization. With Carnegie’s support, IFIT will deepen collaboration and exchange among leading researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working on depolarization through monthly learning activities and convenings; advance and disseminate a Depolarization Strategy Framework alongside locally led testing in nine countries; and explore piloting an online training for youth in conflict and crisis situations. Over time, IFIT aims to strengthen democratic resilience, social trust, and peaceful coexistence.
