Description
In recent years and with the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, schools have moved toward increasingly innovative approaches to teaching and learning. These changing practices require shifts in the preparation and professional development of educators. While there have been some important advances in the creation of hands-on residencies and training programs, their scale has been largely limited to schools within the districts and networks pioneering these programs. Furthermore, the pandemic has exacerbated challenges related to school staffing, talent development, and leadership. Prior Corporation support allowed InnovateEDU to launch a national community of practice focused on talent systems needed for the changing education landscape and to design actionable solutions to human capital challenges. Continued support will enable InnovateEDU to facilitate the talent systems community of practice, align thought leaders, practitioners, and funders doing innovative work related to talent systems, and identify solutions to common challenges in a way that is scalable to a wide range of schools across the country.

Description
The adverse impacts of the pandemic have been disproportionately borne by historically marginalized communities, shining a light on longstanding inequities in our education system and increasing the urgency of addressing them. Schools and districts are not currently equipped to provide the range of student supports with the scale, personalization, and intensity the moment demands. The National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS) is a public-private partnership committed to expanding the number of adults in high-impact roles both in and out of school to ensure that students can not only recover from the impacts of the pandemic but also succeed and thrive. NPSS is led by the U.S. Department of Education, AmeriCorps, and the Everyone Graduates Center at Johns Hopkins University (EGC), along with a coalition of over ninety organizations dedicated to providing the comprehensive supports that young people today need to succeed. Corporation support to InnovateEDU, which will serve as the lead dissemination partner of the NPSS Support Hub, will enable them to build momentum and expand the number of districts using these people-powered student supports and disseminate knowledge gained from NPSS to a broad audience.

In recent years, schools nationwide have moved toward increasingly innovative approaches to teaching and learning. These changing practices require shifts in the preparation and ongoing professional development of educators. While there have been some important advances in the creation of hands-on residencies and training programs, their scale has been largely limited to schools within the districts and networks pioneering these programs. This grant will support InnovateEdu to design and launch a national community of practice focused on talent systems needed for the changing education landscape. This grant will provide support for the first phase of the project during which InnovateEDU will 1) launch a community of practice with an inaugural cohort of ten to fifteen school districts, charter networks, and school support organizations; 2) facilitate virtual and in-person working groups on relevant topics that will result in actionable solutions; and 3) create multimedia resources to share ideas and lessons with the broader field.
