For more than 30 years, the Scoville Fellowship has been a primary entry point into the profession of nuclear and international security policy, launching the careers of top professionals committed to advancing international peace. To build on this foundation, the fellowship will continue to help prepare a new generation to strengthen global efforts to prevent nuclear and other conflicts. Many Scoville Fellows have gone on to prominent positions in government, domestic and international nongovernmental organizations, academia, and media.

As the peace and security field works to reduce the threats of nuclear weapons, climate disruption, conflict, and emerging technological advances, think tanks and institutions need young professionals to contribute diversity and new perspectives. To help ensure the flow of that talent, the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship (Scoville) recruits emerging scholars and leaders to the field through a competitive national fellowship. Selected fellows work with senior-level policy experts at think tanks; attend policy talks and congressional hearings; receive active mentoring; and network with former fellows and the broader community. Many Scoville fellows have gone on to prominent positions in government, domestic and international nongovernmental organizations, academia, and media.

To help ensure the flow of that talent, the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship (Scoville) recruits emerging scholars and leaders to the field through a competitive national fellowship. Selected fellows work with senior-level policy experts at one of twenty-six leading think tanks; attend policy talks and congressional hearings; receive active mentoring; and network with former fellows and the broader community. Of the close to 200 Scoville Fellows supported since 1987, many have gone on to prominent positions in government, domestic and international nongovernmental organizations, academia, and media.

Peace and security analysts have a critical role to play in proposing and communicating policy solutions. To help ensure a pipeline of expertise, the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship (Scoville) recruits and trains younger experts on global security issues. Since 1987, Scoville has offered close to two hundred fellowships, leading to the placement of young professionals in a variety of organizations in Washington, D.C., with a focus on nonproliferation, conflict resolution, terrorism prevention, and other related issues. With continued support, Scoville with offer fellowships and experiences to other cohorts issues.

Description

The Herbert J. Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship was established in 1987 to recruit and train the next generation of peace and security leaders. Since its founding, and with Corporation support since 2009, more than 160 young professionals have been named fellows through a highly competitive program that includes a salaried position for up to nine months with participating organizations in Washington, D.C. that are focused on nonproliferation, conflict resolution, terrorism prevention, and other international security challenges. Fellows attend policy talks, Congressional hearings, and small group events with experts in government and think tanks; receive active mentoring and networking opportunities from the board of directors and former fellows; and write and publish. Fellows have gone on to prominent positions in the field of peace and security with the government, domestic and international NGOs, academia, and media.
