Foundation for Excellence in Education
Project Title
For project support of the continuation of Pathways Matter and outreach to families
Date
Dec. 02, 2021
Duration
15 months
Description
Too often, high school graduates discover that they lack the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in college and/or a career and too many college graduates find themselves unprepared for the demands of the contemporary workforce. At the same time, too many parents find the lack of quality information about educational opportunities available in high school and college inhibits them from helping their children chart a path that leads to success. As an effective policy and advocacy organization that supports state leaders and policymakers in advancing a broad range of student-centered policy solutions, ExcelinEd has been working with Corporation support to address these disconnects through their research on and dissemination of national trends and state-level information about in demand credentials and pathways. ExcelinEd also developed deployed tools and resources to help families make informed decisions about high-quality pathways and employer-valued credentials. With continued support from the Corporation, ExcelinEd plans to 1. Further expand their parent and student resources to support partner outreach, and 2. Continue providing state support and technical assistance to advance comprehensive policy and implementation of education to workforce pathways using the Pathways Matter framework.

For project support of Credentials Matter Phase 3
Date
Dec. 10, 2020
Duration
6 months
Description
While high school graduation rates have been rising over the past several years, college and career readiness rates have not followed the same trend. Better alignment between students’ high school experiences and labor market demands could help bridge this gap to prepare students to succeed. As an effective policy and advocacy organization that supports state leaders and policymakers in advancing a broad range of student-centered policy solutions, ExcelinEd has been working with Corporation support to address this gap by strengthening student learning, advancing equity, and readying graduates for college and career through their Credentials Matter research that identifies national trends and shares state-level information about the credentials students earn and the credentials employers demand. With continued support from the Corporation, ExcelinEd plans to expand the Credentials Matter project audience to include students and families. Specifically, ExcelinEd plans to develop tools and resources to help families make informed decisions about high-quality pathways and employer-valued credentials.

For continuation of a research project focused on the alignment of education programs with the future of work
Date
Sep. 12, 2019
Duration
12 months
Description
Better alignment between students’ high school experiences and labor market demand is required to effectively prepare students for success in a twenty-first century economy. However, there remains a lack of understanding among key stakeholders about which career pathways are currently available to students and which are most efficacious in preparing students for professional success. With Corporation support over the past year, the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd) has begun to address this challenge through research activities designed to shed light on the current landscape of CTE credentials available to students and on whether those credentials have currency in the job market. ExcelinEd’s research, findings, and recommendations are housed within its Credentials Matter microsite, which includes an interactive map showing state-specific data as well as a report and three state deep dive analyses that were created as a part of this project. With renewed support from the Corporation, ExcelinEd will build upon this foundation by updating and enhancing the microsite and completing additional deep dive research.

Duration

Description
While high school graduation rates have been rising over the past several years, college and career readiness rates have not kept pace. Better alignment between students’ high school experiences and labor market demands could help bridge this gap. However, there is currently a lack of understanding among key stakeholders around which career pathways are currently available at the K-12 and community college levels, and which are most efficacious in preparing students for professional success. ExcelinEd is a leader and partner in shaping, advancing, implementing, and messaging innovative policy solutions such that students graduate high school with the skills and knowledge necessary for college and career success. With Corporation support, ExcelinEd will specifically address the lack of understanding around high-quality, industry-recognized credentials through a two-part research study, resulting in an interactive map that will enable policymakers, practitioners, parents, and students to make informed decisions about which credentials have the greatest impact on students’ career success.
