Former Members of Congress
Project Title
For support of its bipartisan efforts to ensure electoral integrity in the upcoming election
Date
Jun. 06, 2024
Duration
18 months
Description
The decline in trust in elections has led to attacks on the integrity of the administration of elections throughout the 2020 and 2022 election cycles and an increase in threats of violence and intimidation of election officials and poll workers. The vulnerabilities posed by gaps in current laws demonstrate that measures must be taken to restore faith in the electoral infrastructure. Founded in 1970, the Former Members of Congress (FMC) is a bipartisan nonprofit focused on engaging former and current Members of Congress and their staff members to work together on educating the public about Congress as an institution. A recent poll of its members found that 84 percent of former members from both parties are worried about violence surrounding the 2024 Presidential election. In addition to its ongoing public education on college campuses and through civic associations, FMC will focus its efforts on developing a bipartisan rapid response network in six states expected to be the most contentious: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
