Description

Established in 2005, Faith in Public Life (FPL) was founded as an organizing strategy center dedicated to amplifying the voices of faith leaders on a range of issues, including immigration and voting rights. FPL maximizes the faith community’s ability to impact public discourse by developing advocacy campaigns, building coalitions, and equipping faith leaders with communications tools to successfully engage their congregations, the public, and the media. Recently, FPL has been working to increase community resilience to disinformation and political polarization, as well as to increase determination to participate in the political process. It is also partnering with outside experts to equip faith leaders with de-escalation training to help mitigate voter intimidation, risk of violence, and other barriers at polling sites during elections. With renewed Corporation support, Faith in Public Life will help unify leaders from the faith community to defend voting rights, educate voters, and shape public narratives in support of a multiracial democracy.

Description

Faith leaders possess a uniquely powerful voice for shaping public opinion in the United States, where 75 percent of Americans believe that religion is either very important or fairly important in their lives. They are uniquely positioned to educate their constituents about the importance of applying their faith values around justice, compassion, and the common good to inform their views on issues like democratic participation, social equality, and immigration. Faith in Public Life is a nonpartisan communications and media strategy center that seeks to maximize the faith community’s ability to impact public discourse through advocacy campaigns, coalition-building, and helping faith leaders engage their peers and the media. With Corporation support, Faith in Public Life will help unify leaders from the faith community and amplify their call for a national environment more conducive to compassionate immigration reform. Faith in Public Life will also help faith leaders engage voters in communities with traditionally low voter turnout.

Description

Religious leaders possess uniquely powerful voices for shaping public opinion. According to a recent Gallup survey, approximately 80 percent of Americans identify with a religious identity and 37 percent of Americans self-report as highly religious. Faith leaders can play an important role in educating constituents and shaping their values—highlighting the moral and practical failures of mass detention and deportation, for example, or explaining the need for federal immigration reform to keep families together. Faith in Public Life is a communications strategy center for faith communities, maximizing their ability to impact public debates by creating innovative communications and advocacy campaigns. With Corporation support, Faith in Public Life will help religious leaders amplify their calls for inclusive immigration policies and help them engage faithful voters in communities with traditionally low voter participation.

Description

According to a 2015 Gallup poll, 78 percent of American adults report that religion is very or fairly important in their lives. Religious leaders can play a powerful role in shaping public opinion on important policy issues, including immigration. Given the strong influence religion has on shaping the values of many Americans, faith coalitions play an important role in educating the public about the moral and practical failures of current immigration policy and the need for federal immigration reform. Faith in Public Life (FPL) is a communications strategy center for the faith community, amplifying the faith voice on a range of public policy issues. FPL maximizes the faith community’s ability to impact public debates by creating innovative communications and advocacy campaigns, capitalizing on rapid-response opportunities, and equipping faith leaders with tools to successfully engage public leaders and the media. With Corporation support, Faith in Public Life will amplify faith voices around the moral imperative for immigration reform and implement a faith-driven civic engagement strategy to mobilize Latino voters.
