Description
To realize the promise of system-wide excellence in education, a critical mass of managers and leaders is needed. Founded in 2003, Education Pioneers is a nonprofit with a mission to identify, train, connect, and inspire a new generation of professionals dedicated to transforming our education system so that all students receive a quality education. Their signature fellowship model recruits, develops, and places early and mid-career professionals in job opportunities involving project management and data analysis across the education sector. Through this final grant, Education Pioneers will (a) implement the Education Human Capital Leaders Institute for thirty human capital leaders in collaboration with the Urban Schools Human Capital Academy, another Corporation grantee, (b) run their fellowship program by recruiting and selecting a diverse cohort of 125 rising early- to mid-career leaders, (c) plan and execute a national alumni strategy, and (d) strengthen their financial sustainability.

Description
Education Pioneers (EP) is a leading national nonprofit that focuses on developing leadership and management talent to solve outside-the-classroom-problems so students and teachers can thrive inside the classroom. In fourteen years, EP has selected and trained nearly 4,000 rising leaders to support 750+ total districts, charters, and support/governance organizations in over twenty cities. Prior Corporation support has focused on helping EP build this pipeline of talent and connect this talent to partner organizations (districts, charter management organizations, state agencies and nonprofits) in the education sector. With this grant, EP will focus on (1) strengthening its training and leadership development work for program participants (in its core fellowship program and also its program focused on human capital leadership); and (2) activating its growing alumni network.

Duration

Description
Education Pioneers focuses on building a pipeline of highly skilled school systems leaders through the recruitment of professionals from a wide array of academic and professional backgrounds. After years of sustained growth, in 2016 Education Pioneers experienced a decline in the number of participants entering its fellowship program. To address these issues, Education Pioneers has developed a year-long revitalization plan featuring three areas for targeted improvement: 1) Talent recruitment into its summer and career fellowship tracks; 2) Partnership development focusing on working with partners to identify projects and roles that Education Pioneers knows it can tap talent to fill; and 3) Improving talent-to-partner matching and placement. This grant will support Education Pioneers’ execution of the revitalization plan.
