Founded in 2015, Chiefs forChange (CfC) is a nonprofit organization led by bold and innovative Chiefsserving in bipartisan administrations that supports its members in tacklingthese challenges. Continued support from the Carnegie Corporation of New Yorkwill enable CfC to accelerate its impact on K-12 education through three keylevers: leadership development, policy and advocacy, and technical assistance.

Description
Next generation leadership at the district and state levels will be key to effective change management in education systems across the country, and the integration of high-quality instructional materials with redesigned student learning experiences is necessary to create and sustain more effective postsecondary pathways for all students. However, these leaders face challenges in acting upon this imperative, including policies that inhibit new approaches and a lack of capacity to transform existing structures. Founded in 2015, Chiefs for Change (CfC) supports a bipartisan network of thirty-five best-in-class district and state leaders, including twenty-five active members and ten alumni members, to tackle these challenges so that all students are prepared to reach their full potential. The specific supports that CfC provides include: facilitated peer to peer learning, development of a diverse talent pipeline through the Future Chiefs program, project management support, communications advising and support, and timely technical assistance from CfC partners.

Description
District and state leaders have increasingly come to recognize the need to redesign student learning experiences, but they face myriad challenges in acting upon this imperative, including deeply entrenched policies, systems, and structures that inhibit new approaches and protect the status quo. Founded in 2015, Chiefs for Change (CFC), is a bi-partisan network of innovative education leaders that is well-positioned to tackle this challenge. CFC convenes its members to boldly design the future of education in America, positioning them for success by increasing their capacity to propose and implement innovative policy, building a unique community of practice, and cultivating a pipeline of the next generation of diverse education leaders. With Corporation support, CFC will facilitate, convene, and provide technical assistance to chiefs as part of a School and System Redesign workgroup, and prepare chiefs to change policies and lead innovative systems in a way that is deeply informed by stakeholder engagement.

Description
The recent passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) gives states and districts new responsibilities, as well as opportunities, for how schools and students will be supported, and explicitly calls for stakeholder engagement – with educators, parents, and communities – in the process of developing new visions and plans. Chiefs for Change (CFC), a network of state and district education Chiefs, seeks to ensure a smooth, productive, and timely transition to ESSA implementation by convening an ESSA working group for 15 state Chiefs and their deputies. CFC aims to support Chiefs in learning from the lessons of the past and effectively planning, communicating, and implementing new state education plans that are appropriate for local contexts and that ensure equity for all students. This grant supports a subgroup of the ESSA working group focused on stakeholder engagement, including the facilitation of peer-to-peer advising, the provision of communications technical assistance and policy, research and analytic support.
