Description

As polities in the Arab region confront the related problems of eroded citizenship and authoritarianism, the Century Foundation’s center for international research and policy, Century International (CI), will continue its active engagement with policy researchers in the Arab region. Combining methods of academic training and investigative journalism, network participants produce and disseminate research on pressing issues including corruption, conflict, and climate adaptation. Corporation funds support collaborative research, staff costs, workshops, and publications.

Description

As polities in the Arab region confront the related problems of eroded citizenship and authoritarianism, the Century Foundation’s new center for international research and policy, Century International (CI), will continue its active engagement with policy researchers in the Arab region. Network participants will produce and disseminate research on pathways to improved governance and citizenship regimes. CI will also support training for young Iraqi policy scholars to produce original research on good governance and public policy. Corporation funds will support collaborative research, staff costs, workshops, and publications.

Description

Today, polities globally confront the related problems of eroded citizenship and authoritarianism. This project will build on The Century Foundation’s (TCF) initiative on citizenship and its discontents in the Middle East. Building on TCF’s existing network focused on the Arab region, the project’s next phase will focus on expanding connections between scholars working on transnational trends in citizenship in the Arab region and Europe/North America. The project will convene a research group to facilitate collaborative learning on issues that transcend regional boundaries and will result in policy-relevant publications.

For research and policy outreach on drivers and consequences of conflict in the Arab region

Description

Building on the Century Foundation’s prior research, publications, and consultations on Arab politics and regional security, the new project will develop policy frameworks for managing the fallout from expanding regional conflict. By convening small groups of experts in targeted areas, the project will foster a regional security dialogue taking into account the regional impact of non-state actors. The work has relevance both for emerging regional security architecture and for Syrian reconstruction. The project will result in publications with policy recommendations and meetings with decisionmakers in the United States, Europe, and the Arab region. Corporation funds will support Track II dialogues, research, publications, and public events.
