Description
Although there are significant impediments to U.S.-Russia nuclear arms control and moves to withdraw from the current agreements, cooperation between the two countries on nuclear issues is necessary for global stability. To evaluate and propose solutions to some of the most pressing problems in the nuclear domain, a project of the Center for Policy Studies in Russia, a nonprofit organization that carries out policy research and educational activities, will establish a working group of high-level Russian and American experts to conduct dialogues on strategic stability and arms control. To help sustain the dialogue, the Center will train and engage young professionals and leaders who could contribute in the longer-term to the improvement of U.S.-Russia strategic relations and international security.

Description
Despite strained strategic interaction between Russia and the United States, there is an urgent need to establish a new U.S.-Russian dialogue on nuclear issues, reflect on the successes and failures of previous instances of cooperation in the field, address emerging nuclear threats, and prevent nuclear escalation. The Center for Policy Studies in Russia will implement a U.S.-Russia Track 1.5 working group to study the erosion of strategic stability, consequences of nuclear modernization, and lack of bilateral cooperation. It will publish the group’s recommendations and involve young professionals in the meetings and research work.
