Description

Founded in 2016, Braver Angels is the nation’s leading cross-partisan, volunteer-led movement to bridge the partisan divide and strengthen communities. Operating through a volunteer-powered network of alliances in 37 states and supported by more than 17,900 individual donors and 15,000 annual members, Braver Angels has developed cross-partisan programming such as workshops, debates, summits, and panels for community members, young people, and elected officials. Carnegie funding will support two initiatives: Braver Politics, which builds cross-partisan state legislative caucuses in New Hampshire, Utah, and Washington State by pairing inside-the-chamber relationship-building with grassroots constituent engagement, and Braver Education, which will develop, pilot, and evaluate a five-module youth civic development curriculum in Colorado, Illinois, and Ohio through partnerships with community-based youth-serving organizations.

Description

Americans on opposite sides of the political spectrum do not only disagree on issues—they are increasingly losing trust in one another. America’s political polarization challenge has been building for decades and is now deeply rooted in major institutions in the United States. Established in 2016, Braver Angels is one of the nation’s leading grassroots political depolarization organizations whose mission is to bring Americans together to bridge the partisan divide. Its newest initiative, Braver Politics, fosters opportunities for elected officials, staff members, and constituents—at the national, state, county, and local levels—to develop the skills and commitment to work together across political differences. With Corporation support, Braver Angels will engage with Utah and Washington state legislatures to build constructive relationships across the political spectrum.
