The American Scottish Foundation (ASF) was founded in 1956 as a cultural and heritage bridge between Scotland and the United States. Its many programs highlight the history and heritage of Scotland with the Scottish American community as well as empowering young Scots through their youth ambassadors program. Corporation support will help the ASF continue to maintain and growtheir programs including its podcast series, ScotsInUS, the annual Tartan Week activities,Burns Night, concerts, community outreach, youth programming, and the legacy project, the Scots Who Built New York, which has identified over 100 buildings with architectural,engineering, and philanthropic links to Scottish Americans and Scots.

Formed in 1956 by Lord Malcolm Douglas Hamilton, the American Scottish Foundationis a national organization providinga cultural bridge between the United States and Scotland. Through their platform of projects and events, the AmericanScottishFoundation helps strengthen andshare the heritage of Scots in the United States, including Andrew Carnegie andhis influence, and the cultural message of Scotland’s past and future. With Corporation support, the organization will continue its previously Carnegie Corporation supported work on the “Scots Who Built New York” campaign. Photography and filmmaking are already underway in the creation ofa walking tour map of uptown Manhattan.In addition, they will use grant funds toassessthe feasibility of the last project in the campaign — tomapthe outer boroughs ofNew York City.

Founded in 1956, The American Scottish Foundation (ASF) seeks to establish links and strengthen ties between Scotland and the United States, through the pursuit of contemporary social, cultural, educational, environmental, community and business activities. With Corporation support, ASF will continue their work in the project, “The Scots Who Built New York,” spotlighting the contributions of Scottish-Americans in the fields of architecture, engineering, and design. This second phase will include the design and development of a mobile application and accompanying printed guide scheduled to be launched in April 2017. The app and guide are designed to share information with the public about immigrant contributions to New York City; specifically, Scottish-American architects who contributed to the building of some of the city’s most iconic buildings.
