The lack of awareness about the role diplomats play within the U.S. foreign affairs and national security establishments undermines public support for American diplomacy. Established in 1983, the American Academy of Diplomacy’s mission is to enhance public appreciation and support for U.S. diplomacy’s critical role in advancing the national interest. In pursuit of its goals, the Academy supports programs that highlight past achievements, failures, and future opportunities of U.S. diplomacy. The American Diplomat Podcast offers first-person storytelling from American diplomats who have contributed to newsworthy events overseas. Hosted by former ambassador, Pete Romero and writer, Laura Bennett, the conversations add context and details to the guests’ stories from behind the scenes of international diplomacy.
