Founded in 1981, The Actors’ Gang (TAG) is a Los Angeles-based theater company and educational organization established by a collective of artists. TAG uses theater to foster creativity, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for personal transformation through its performance, education, and prison programs. Its nationally recognized Prison Project has demonstrated the power of theater to build empathy, communication, and self-reflection among incarcerated individuals, reinforcing the organization’s belief that creative expression can strengthen both individuals and communities. An Andrew Carnegie Foundation grant will support The Actors’ Gang Education Program (TAG-ED), expanding access to young people in underserved communities while strengthening program evaluation. Through theater workshops in schools and community settings, students build confidence, communication, empathy, and teamwork while learning to understand different perspectives, engage constructively with others, and become more active participants in their schools, communities, and civic life.
