Description
Founded in 1995, KIPP NYC Public Schools operates a network of 18 free public charter schools across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan serving more than 9,200 students in grades K–12, anchored by KIPP NYC College Prep High School, the network’s flagship, which achieves a 90 percent college matriculation rate and a 72 percent third-year persistence rate compared to a national rate of 15 percent for students from the lowest-income quartile. Beginning in fall 2026, KIPP’s high school will expand from 2,210 to 2,700 students by SY27–28, making it the largest charter high school in New York City. The proposed grant ensures that students accepted to four-year colleges can pursue their degrees undeterred by financial need. To achieve this, the initiative will support approximately 350 alumni through a microgrant program and fund four Postsecondary Success Fellows to advise graduates during their first two years of college. Additionally, the grant will scale advising efforts through upgraded technology platforms and provide expanded college visits for 250 to 350 students annually.
