Introduction
The Andrew Carnegie Foundation, originally established as Carnegie Corporation of New York, is a philanthropic organization founded in 1911 by Andrew Carnegie for the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding. Today, we seek to reduce political polarization through support for the issues that Carnegie considered most important: education, democracy, and peace.
Why Carnegie?
Our overarching goal is to reduce political polarization through grants that support ladders of opportunity and a more peaceful world. Our funding provides individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to improve their lives, participate fully in society, and advance peace.
The Andrew Carnegie foundation, formerly Carnegie Corporation of New York, is one of America’s oldest grantmaking foundations, established in 1911. We are headquartered in New York City, but our grantmaking is both national and international in scope.
We at Carnegie are dedicated to our founder’s conviction that all individuals should have access to the knowledge and tools needed to improve the quality of their lives, our society, and our world. As Andrew Carnegie’s philanthropic foundation, it is our responsibility to use our resources effectively to support the public good by creating ladders of opportunity for all to rise and to live in peace, now and for generations to come.
