Duration

Description
Founded in 1592, the Library of Trinity College Dublin is Ireland’s largest academic library and home to the Book of Kells, one of the world’s most celebrated illuminated manuscripts. The Andrew Carnegie Foundation grant will support the creation of a new Book of Kells Digital Showcase as part of the Library’s conservation-led Old Library Development Project. The resulting conservation, research, and advanced digital imaging will expand access to the manuscript worldwide while serving as the centerpiece of a reimagined Book of Kells exhibition when the restored Old Library reopens to the public in 2030. Building on the Foundation’s previous investments in Trinity’s digitization initiatives, the grant supports an ambitious effort to preserve, study, and share one of the world’s most important medieval manuscripts.
