Project Title
For support of Remake Learning Days Across America in 2020 and associated family and community engagement activities
Date
Mar. 05, 2020
Duration
12 months
Description
For most families across the country, opportunities to engage in new designs for learning are few and far between, especially for families in low-income communities. While schools are struggling to close the opportunity gap, the accelerating pace of technological change can make it even more difficult for families to experience the future of learning. Remake Learning, established in 2007, is a network of over 500 organizations igniting relevant, engaging, and equitable learning practices to help all learners thrive. With previous support from the Corporation, Remake Learning partnered with national leaders like PBS and Common Sense Media to develop a toolkit for regions across the country to implement Remake Learning Days Across America (RLDAA), a series of multi-generational events for families to take an active part in the future of learning within all spaces that kids learn. With continued support, Remake Learning will expand the reach of their RLDAA festival to four new states to provide in-person opportunities for parents, families and caregivers to actively engage in their local communities.

Description
For most families across the country, opportunities to engage in new designs for learning are few and far between, and for families in low-income communities, they are even scarcer. While schools are struggling to close the opportunity gap between affluent peers and learners living in poverty, the accelerating pace of technological change threatens to exacerbate this gap. Remake Learning, established in 2007, is a network of over 500 organizations igniting relevant, engaging, and equitable learning practices to help all learners thrive. With previous support from the Corporation, Remake Learning partnered with national leaders like PBS and Common Sense Media to develop a toolkit for regions across the country to implement Remake Learning Days, a series of multi-generational events for families to take an active part in the future of learning within all spaces that kids learn, including schools, museums, and libraries. With continued support, Remake Learning will help five regions in addition to Pittsburgh implement the toolkit, support communications, coordinate regional and national media campaigns and outreach to local, state, and federal leaders to encourage participation.

For support of Remake Learning Days 2017 and planning for a nation-wide, action-oriented month for family engagement in 2018, modeled on Remake Learning Days
Date
Jun. 01, 2017
Duration
16 months
Description
Engaging a diversity of stakeholders, including community members, in learning innovation is key to the success of such endeavors. Building on the success of the first ever Remake Learning Days in May 2016, Remake Learning Days 2017 will engage communities across southwest Pennsylvania and West Virginia during a week of over 300 events that showcase innovative, hands-on learning in the region. In addition, Corporation support will enable the Remake Learning Council to undertake planning activities for a national campaign that builds on the success of the regional event. The Remake Learning Network has been at the forefront of national conversations regarding next-generation learning, and is well-positioned to convene partners for a national campaign. The nation-wide, coordinated strategy would apply lessons from the regional Remake Learning Days to diverse contexts across the country. With Corporation support, the Remake Learning Council will develop an implementation plan for a month-long, national event to engage communities across the country in innovative learning.

Project Title
For support of the Remake Learning in the Neighborhood Program to engage families in underserved communities in the Remake Learning Days events.
Date
Jun. 09, 2016
Duration
18 months
Description
Engaging communities in learning innovations is central to the success of such endeavors inside and outside of the classroom. The Remake Learning Days will be a first-of-its-kind, week-long celebration of the innovations in learning happening throughout the southwest Pennsylvania and West Virginia region. It will include over 100 documented and publicized commitments to innovative learning throughout the region, and up to 100 events hosted by organizations throughout the week. Corporation funds will support the Remake Learning in the Neighborhood program, which will reach families, primarily families of color in four targeted communities, and engage them in events throughout the week-long celebration. This program will provide families: a) access to innovative learning opportunities throughout the week; b) incentives to participate in these activities; and c) information to youth and families about how they can continue to participate in these experiences, in their own neighborhoods, beyond the Remake Learning Days.
