Teach For All
Project Title
For support of the Systems Impact Research Accelerator
Date
Mar. 09, 2023
Duration
12 months
Description
With the growing challenges society is facing, we must focus on building systems that can constantly adapt and transform in order to enable all children—particularly the most marginalized, who have been even further disadvantaged by the pandemic—to navigate an uncertain future and help shape it into a better one. To drive this level of systems change, we need to develop leaders who can operate at every level of the education system to ensure that necessary change comes to the whole ecosystem surrounding children. Teach For All’s Systems Impact Research Accelerator (SIRA) endeavors to research one model of this type of leadership, Collective Leadership. With support from the Corporation, TFA will complete case studies with up to eightpartners describing how their work is achieving systemic impact and design additional research to further substantiate any claims or hypotheses in the case studies in need of additional evidence. Long term, TFA aims to generate evidence on how to develop collective leadership, develop methods to measure impact on a systems level and ways to accelerate impact, and lastly, influence and inform the global education discussion on the importance of collective leadership development.

Date
Dec. 10, 2020
Duration
18 months
Description
Across the globe, demand is growing for a model of classroom excellence that does not just close achievement gaps but also realizes students’ potential as leaders who address the causes of achievement gaps. Teach for All seeks to meet this demand, by facilitating learning across their global network of 54 member-country organizations about new modes of teaching and learning better aligned to that vision. Four years ago, with Corporation support, Teach for All launched the Global Learning Lab, to study transformational classrooms in marginalized and underserved communities around the world in order to co-create a new framework to guide teaching and learning and to use their network to spread best practice aligned to that model. The Lab now receives about 1,700 visitors to their website per month, indicating growing awareness and demand for their work. This will be a final grant.

For continued development of the Global Learning Lab
Date

Duration

Description
Insufficient progress in schools, classrooms, and systems has been made to ensure that all children can thrive, regardless of the circumstances of their birth—in part because the purposes, strategies, and outcomes of schools are not aligned to the children they serve and the future those children will face. The research is weak around how to develop teachers to teach to broader student outcomes and solicit community input on vision, and the ability of the education sector to share learning is limited. The Global Learning Lab (GLL) of Teach for All, launched in October 2016 with Corporation support, aims explore the multifaceted challenge described above, and to undertake research and sharing that addresses the research limitations that exacerbate that challenge. The Lab leverages insights from a network of forty-eight partner organizations to develop hypotheses about what systemic changes are needed; test these insights in a variety of contexts worldwide; learn quickly; and support network partners and other stakeholders to act on the latest insights.

Insufficient progress in schools, classrooms, and systems has been made to ensure that all children can thrive, regardless of the circumstances of their birth – in part because the purposes, strategies, and outcomes of schools are not aligned to the children they serve and the future those children will face. The vision for the purpose of education and the systemic reform needed to achieve that is rarely is informed directly by these students’ and communities’ assets, needs and futures, and the outcomes the system is currently designed to produce are exceedingly narrow. The Lab leverages insights from a network of forty-five partner organizations to develop hypotheses about what systemic changes are needed; test these insights in a variety of contexts worldwide; learn quickly; and support network partners and other stakeholders to act on the latest insights.

Project Title
For launching the Transformational Learning & Leadership Lab
Date
Mar. 03, 2016
Duration
9 months
Description
Nations across the globe, including the United States, struggle to provide all students with a high-quality education capable of setting them up for college and career success. This includes ensuring that there is a teacher in every classroom that is well-prepared to tackle the challenges facing schools in underserved communities and create learning environments capable of seeding and sustaining high student achievement. To address this problem, Teach for All is dedicated to forming a global network of independent organizations capable of building local movements for educational excellence, including high-quality teaching. In this pursuit, Teach for All proposes to launch a Transformational Learning & Leadership Lab (TLL Lab) to collate the learnings from transformational classrooms around the world and disseminate them across its growing network. Through the TLL Lab, Teach for All will conduct investigations, host expert roundtables, and facilitate online forums, amongst other things, and then develop and spread actionable insights about what differentiates transformational teachers, intended to catalyze learning within and across the education sector. Such insights will include how to better develop and support teachers, and how to create systems that foster teacher learning and student learning. Through this planning grant, Teach for All will lay the foundations of the TLL Lab, allowing it to build the capacity both from a staffing and infrastructure perspective needed to successfully launch the lab in July 2016.

Date

Duration

Description
Patterns emerging from transformational classrooms in some of the most challenging contexts around the world have the potential to reveal actionable insights into what teacher actions and mindsets are effective and how to develop them; how engagement with students, families and communities affects student success; and which student outcomes set young people on an enduring path to opportunity and leadership. Teach For All’s new Transformational Learning and Leadership (TLL) Lab seeks to use a series of collaborative investigations, expert/practitioner roundtables, and fellowships across its network of 40 partner organizations to learn from these classrooms and to model new ways of sharing that learning with the broader field. This grant supports the launch and first year of the TLL Lab.
