Project Title

As a final grant for advancing policy and building public understanding in support of socio-emotional learning and development

Date

Jun. 06, 2024

Duration

15 months

Description

Today’s students require high-quality learning experiences that equip them with the social, emotional, and academic skills needed to succeed in college, career, and our increasingly complex world. For nearly three decades, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) has been a leading organization producing educator tools and building the evidence base for high-quality socio-emotional learning (SEL), including direct support for more than twenty school districts serving 1.7 million students and forty state partners. Over the past year, Corporation support has enabled CASEL to engage education stakeholders and policymakers through targeted bi-partisan outreach and briefing. The Corporation’s grant has also allowed CASEL to conduct broader communication efforts aimed at engaging families and communities in supporting SEL as a critical part of the student learning experience. This final grant will enable CASEL to deepen this influential work by leading an extensive coalition of SEL partners, disseminating toolkits and messaging to school and district leaders, amplifying the voices of parents, students, and educators through storytelling efforts, and leveraging CASEL’s well-established media presence to build public support for SEL.

Duration

12 months

Description

College and career readiness requires more than academic knowledge—an extensive body of research shows that students’ socio-emotional skills are key to their lifelong success and well-being. For nearly three decades, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) has served as one of the leading organizations developing the field and building the evidence base for high-quality socio-emotional learning (SEL). CASEL equips school, district, and state education leaders with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to implement high-quality SEL, including direct support for twenty school districts serving 1.7 million students and forty state partners. Corporation support will enable CASEL to implement strategic communications activities to build greater understanding of high-quality SEL among education stakeholders and policymakers and engage families and communities in supporting SEL as a critical part of the student learning experience.
