Description

Although securing a postsecondary credential has become increasingly vital to an individual’s ability to secure employment and achieve economic mobility, resources to support college access and success remain insufficient. To address this gap, the Corporation supports a cohort of college access organizations working to meet the varied needs of New York City students. OneGoal equips school-based educators to facilitate a three-year college access and success program, in which high school students complete credit-bearing courses and receive coaching through the first day of sophomore year of college. Prior Corporation support enabled OneGoal New York to support 3,000 students, 62 percent of whom are first-generation college students, and boost their postsecondary outcomes. In the 2022-2023 school year, 100 percent of students graduated from high school, compared to the citywide average of 83 percent, and 84 percent of students enrolled in a postsecondary program following high school graduation, which outpaces the national average of 50 percent for students from comparable economic backgrounds. Finally, their inaugural class earned a college degree at twice the national average. Renewal support will enable OneGoal to provide differentiated support and increase enrollment in high-quality postsecondary pathways for approximately 1,900 New York City students served annually.

Description

During this period of protracted churn and uncertainty, a postsecondary credential has become increasingly vital to an individual’s ability to secure employment and achieve economic mobility, yet resources to support students’ college access and success remain insufficient and inequitable. OneGoal equips educators to facilitate a three-year college success model, in which high school students (Fellows) complete credit-bearing courses and receive coaching and support through the first day of sophomore year of college. Prior support as part of our College Advising Partnership enabled OneGoal to grow to support 1,600 Fellows and 1,350 alumni in New York City, adapt programming to meet the shifting needs of educators and students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and achieve strong outcomes in college access and success. Renewal support from the Corporation will enable OneGoal to increase enrollment in high-quality postsecondary pathways, provide differentiated supports to Fellows, and launch a new professional development series for educators across New York City.

Apostsecondary credential has become increasingly vital to an individual’s ability to secure employment, yet resources to support secondary students’ college access and success are insufficient. OneGoal equips educators to facilitate a three-year college success model, in which high school students complete credit-bearing courses and receive coaching and support through freshman year of college. OneGoal participates in the Corporation’s College Advising Partnership (CAP), which aims to address the persistent gap in degree attainment between high- and low-income students, despite identical aspirations to complete a postsecondary education. Previous grants have enabled OneGoal to serve 2,066 fellows in thirty-one high schools in New York City and advance postsecondary enrollment and persistence goals, such as 77 percent of OneGoal students achieving positive growth in GPA or SAT and 86 percent of fellows immediately enrolling in a postsecondary program. Corporation support will enable OneGoal New York to continue participating in CAP and transforming student outcomes by building the capacity of schools, both remotely and in-person, to support student access and success in college.

Description

While similar percentages of 10th grade students from low- and high-income communities aim to earn postsecondary degrees, the rates at which they achieve this goal differ drastically. Research shows that 67 percent of students in the highest socioeconomic group earn a postsecondary degree compared to only 22 percent of those in the lowest socioeconomic group. OneGoal addresses this mismatch by equipping teachers to facilitate a three-year, school-based college success model. The model offers high school students credit-bearing courses and coaching and supports students through their freshman year of college. Previous Corporation grants have enabled OneGoal to implement a strategic plan, expand its reach to more students, and ultimately amplify student success. Since its launch, 81 percent of OneGoal students have enrolled in a postsecondary program and 86 percent of enrolled students have persisted one year later. Renewed support will enable OneGoal to continue expanding higher education opportunities for low-income students in New York City.

Description

Despite increasing high school graduation rates, persistence through college remains an insurmountable obstacle to a majority of students. OneGoal is a college success organization that empowers underperforming high school students to reach their full potential and graduate from college. OneGoal recruits high performing teachers and provides them with the training and support necessary to implement OneGoal’s three-year college success model, which provides school-based support for high school juniors and seniors and intensive, remote coaching for college freshmen and rising sophomores. With prior Corporation support, OneGoal New York has grown to serve more students and improve those students’ college access and persistence rates. Eighty-eight percent of the first cohort enrolled in college, and 87 percent have persisted to date. With renewed Corporation support, OneGoal New York will continue implementation of its five-year strategic plan, scaling the program to increase impact.

Description

College access and success remain unattainable for a majority of students. OneGoal helps low-income students get to and through college, providing them with rigorous programming and support from junior year of high school through freshman year of college. Through rigorous curriculum and targeted support, OneGoal New York guides students to: develop the non-cognitive skills of successful college students; increase their GPAs and test scores in order to gain access to more selective and supportive colleges; and take all necessary steps to apply to, enroll in, and gain financial aid for a match college. General support from the Corporation will enable OneGoal New York to: continue to deliver transformational post-secondary outcomes for students; identify local institutions of higher education to partner with; develop a stable financial model; and scale the program to serve students across twenty-six non-selective, high-need high schools in New York City.
