Description
Journalism plays a vital role in holding power to account and preserving democratic institutions. In the United States, there is a growing need for independent, nonpartisan investigative reporting, work that cuts through political noise, reaches people across the political spectrum, and gives them facts they need to push for accountability. ProPublica, founded in 2008, is a nonprofit newsroom committed to this mission, and it is now the largest investigative news organization in the country focused solely on serving the public interest. They take on in-depth investigations that many outlets shy away from; stories that may be too complex, costly, or risky for others to pursue. At a time when misinformation is widespread and public trust is fading, ProPublica’s work is more essential than ever.

Founded in 2007, ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit news agency dedicated to exposing abuses of power and other unethical practices in order to preserve democracy and stimulate potential reforms. ProPublica’s strength lies in both the quality of its reporting staff and its extensive data mining and analysis capabilities that look to fill the gap in accountability that exists today and empower an engaged public to yield action. It focuses on systemic problems without simple, short-term solutions, adhering to nonpartisan and nonideological standards of journalism. With Corporation support, ProPublica will publish more investigative reporting, partner with organizations on local and national investigations, and lead trainings on best practices and innovations in data, engagement, and more.

Description
Founded in 2007, ProPublica is an independent, non-profit news agency dedicated to exposing abuses of power and betrayals of the public trust by government, business, and other institutions. The recipient of four Pulitzer Prizes, four Peabody Awards, and six George Polk Awards, ProPublica’s strength lies in both the quality of its reporting staff and its extensive data-mining and analysis capabilities. In 2014 and 2016, the Corporation awarded ProPublica grants to support its reporting on K-12 education. This funding enabled the organization to publish revealing articles on topics such as the widespread misuse of restraints in public schools and the abuse of people with disabilities by a company that runs schools and residential facilities for the disabled. In both cases, the articles resulted in state laws banning those practices. With renewed support, ProPublica will continue to uncover inequality and exploitation in the nation’s education system as well as expand its political reporting.

Description
Founded in 2007, ProPublica is an independent, non-profit news agency with a mission to produce investigative journalism in the public interest. The first online news organization to win a Pulitzer Prize, ProPublica’s strength lies in both the quality of its reporting staff and its extensive data-mining and analysis capabilities. Its goal is to stimulate positive change by uncovering objectionable practices and abuses of power. In 2014, the Corporation awarded ProPublica a $150,000 grant to expand its reporting on K-12 education. This funding enabled the organization to publish revealing articles on topics such as the widespread misuse of restraints in public schools and the abuse of people with disabilities by a company that runs schools and residential facilities for the disabled. In both cases, the articles resulted in state laws banning those practices. With renewed support, ProPublica will continue to uncover inequality and exploitation in the nation’s education system and encourage reform.
