Nehal Amer

Nehal Amer is a program analyst with the Corporation’s Transnational Movements and the Arab Region program. She provides programmatic support related to Arab region program areas, which aim to strengthen Arab region social science communities to promote cross-regional analysis on global trends and contribute to international policymaking. In this role, she manages grantee relations and identifies opportunities to support program strategy.

Amer is currently a PhD student in the anthropology program at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center. Her research areas include urbanisms and cities in the Middle East and North Africa, the anthropology of development, and the politics of securitization. She holds an MA in Middle Eastern and North African studies from the University of Michigan and a BA in international relations and comparative cultures and politics from Michigan State University. Amer has taught undergraduate-level courses on anthropology and Middle Eastern cultures and societies. Previously, she volunteered with Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Coordination Group as a social media coordinator.
