As chancellor of Southern University at New Orleans since 2006, Victor Ukpolo has guided the university through a rebuilding process after it sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Katrina, in part by launching an aggressive marketing and reorganization campaign. Having immigrated from Nigeria at the age of 22, Ukpolo holds an MA and PhD in philosophy from American University, and has served as a professor and administrator at several institutions including California State University in Los Angeles, and Austin Peay State University in Tennessee.
