“There’s a reason why people the world over want to live here, be they Guatemalans or Greeks, Haitians or Hungarians, Bangladeshis or Brits like my husband and me. And it’s the very same reason why America is admired and emulated everywhere in the world, even in these hellishly trying times. America is synonymous with opportunity,” Tina Brown wrote in 2010. Brown came to the United States in 1984 from Britain to become the editor of Vanity Fair. After turning around the magazine — increasing sales from 200,000 to 1.2 million — she took the helm at The New Yorker and later founded The Daily Beast. She is currently CEO of Tina Brown Live Media and the visionary behind Women in the World, a global platform dedicated to highlighting the most pressing domestic and international issues affecting women. Brown is author of The Diana Chronicles (2007) about the life of Princess Diana and The Vanity Fair Diaries (2017), which recounts her early days editing the magazine. Queen Elizabeth honored her in 2000 as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to overseas journalism. Updated 2018
