Fashion designer Thakoon Panichgul is one of the most celebrated recent talents to emerge from the New York scene. After spending several years working in other aspects of the fashion industry and writing for Harper's Bazaar, he took classes at the Parsons School of Design. He launched his company Thakoon in 2004. Already successful, his popularity exploded in 2008 when Michelle Obama joined her husband onstage at the Democratic National Convention wearing one of his designs. He has won a Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund honor and was nominated by the CFDA for the Swarovski Award for Best Emerging Womenswear Designer. Updated 2010
