Ted Koppel

Broadcast journalist Ted Koppel was born in Lancashire, England in 1940. Best known as the chief anchor of the late-night ABC news program Nightline, he started there in 1979, reporting on the Iran Hostage Crisis, and continued for more than 25 years. He became famous for his piercing, unscripted interviews and was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame. He has also won dozens of Emmys and eight Peabody Awards over the course of his career. Currently, he serves as an occasional commentator on NPR's midday news and talk show, Talk of the Nation. Updated 2012
