Entrepreneur Tariq Farid began his first venture in the late 1980s when, at age 17, he used a $5,000 loan from his parents to purchase a flower shop. Within two years, he’d opened three more shops. In 1999, Farid and his brother launched Edible Arrangements, which sells fruit baskets arranged like flower bouquets. The franchise now has more than 1,100 stores in 14 countries and, in 2011, Forbes named it one of the “10 Top Franchises for the Money.” Updated 2011
