Simon Billinge is a physicist at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory and a professor at Columbia University's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Before joining Columbia he served as a professor and astronomy in Michigan State University’s department of physics. Billinge holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2014, he was named a fellow of the Neutron Scattering Society of America in recognition of his \"seminal contributions to the field of local structure and nanostructure studies using atomic pair distribution function methods and [his] impact on the field of neutron diffraction.
