"I came here to the U.S. at age six with my family from the Soviet Union which was at that time the greatest enemy the U.S. had, maybe it still is. It was a dire period, the Cold War, as some people remember it. It was under the threat of nuclear annihilation. And even then the U.S. had the courage to take me and my family in as refugees,” said Google co-founder Sergey Brin in 2017. Brin started Google in 1998 with Larry Page, whom he met at Stanford University while pursuing a PhD in computer science. He is now president of Alphabet, the parent firm of Google. With a net worth of $51.8 billion, Brin is the 13th wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes. He has donated more than $400 million to a number of organizations and causes through the Brin Wojcicki Foundation, which he runs with his former wife, Anne Wojcicki. Updated 2018
