One of baseball's leading pitchers, Pedro Martinez was born in 1971 in Manoguayabo, Dominican Republic. Following his older brother Ramon into the Major Leagues, he signed with the L.A. Dodgers and then the Montreal Expos, establishing himself as a premier pitcher. An eight-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young Award winner, he became the highest paid player in the league when he signed to the Boston Red Sox in 1997.
