Having lived in the U.S. since 1987, he is currently Howard G. B. Clark Professor at Princeton University, and is The New Yorker magazine's poetry editor. His many honors include the 1996 American Academy of Arts and Letters award in literature and the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for poetry.
