Mohamad Bazzi immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 10. After graduating from the City University of New York, he became a reporter for Newsday in 1998. There he was the lead writer on the Iraq War, eventually becoming the Middle East bureau chief, covering topics such as the Sunni-Shiite conflicts, militant Islam, the Palestinian uprising, and the war in Afghanistan. His essays on the Middle East have appeared in major publications including The New York Times,The Wall Street Journal,The Nation, and London Review of Books and he has received numerous journalism awards including the 2008 Arthur Ross Award for distinguished reporting and analysis on foreign affairs. He is currently an associate professor of journalism at New York University, where he teaches international reporting. Updated 2013
