After studying dance in Africa and Europe, and teaching at the Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague, Michel Kouakou formed his own dance company Daara Dance. With this group he performs internationally, while also continuing to teach in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. He has stated that he strives to build an “artistic bridge” through dance between Cote d’Ivoire and his adopted country.
