Michael B. Silvers is an assistant professor in the School of Music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an ethnomusicologist specializing in Brazilian music and ecomusicology, the study of music and the environment. His book Voices of Drought: The Politics of Music and Environment in Northeastern Brazil explores links between devastating droughts, natural resources, and popular music in the region.
