Born in Guangzhou, China in 1948, Martin Yan received his culinary training in Hong Kong before being tapped to demonstrate Chinese cooking on a Canadian news program in the 1970s. Since then Yan Can Cook became one of the most popular cooking shows on television, winning the James Beard Award for Best Food Documentary twice in a row. Yan has published books, appeared on many other shows, and founded the Yan Can International Cooking School, sharing his passion for food worldwide. Updated 2008
